~PETE'S DEBRIEF~
Pete and Inge from the Central Otago Wilding Conifer Control Group attended the 2024 National Wilding Pine Conference held in the Great Lake Centre in Taupo. It was good to have a representative of our group there to be the eye's and ear's for this three day deep dive into Wilding Pines.
This annual gathering is important and hugely motivating. We get national updates from MPI - especially insights into available funding for the National Programme. We hear from scientists, contractors in the field, lobby political representatives, hear the stories from other community groups, corporate sponsors who supply product related to wilding pine control.
Most importantly we make valuable connections and share information that helps us in the fight against the destructive wilding pines.
There's A LOT of information shared, usually by the end of the three day affair, you're a bit pined out. Thankfully, this year, Pete supplied us with video overviews from the speakers he heard.
Frantically writing down key snippets of information which could related to our operation.
These have been valuable, as there was a lot more practical application that we could take away. We've had a few requests to package Pete's debriefs into a blog for our network to view.
